My bush-flying game's whole world used to be one valley: 25 square miles, three minutes across in a Cub. So I made it 25 times bigger. Over 500 square miles of mountains, glaciers, braided rivers and coastline, with a 12,500 ft mountain parked right between home and the spot where the big port city is planned.
It's far from finished. The new land is just its shape for now: the forests, textures and the city are still to come. This video is about the journey to get there.
Growing it nearly broke everything: mile-deep glacier trenches, lakes floating in the sky, an eight-hour build that stalled overnight, and a computer that locked up at 98% memory. Here's how the world got built, why a bigger map is only better when distance makes you decide something, and the problem I didn't see coming.
Next up: a highway across the whole map, more runways, and more jobs to fly.
The name and a beta release date on Steam are still in the works. You'll hear it here first.
So: the city on the far coast, and the mountain in the way. Over the top, or around? Tell me in the comments.
